They give people so much more flexibility. We’ve also found that sometimes people need one more DIT station or to produce LTO deliverables for just one job, or they don’t usually do transcoding but for the next two-weeks they will. Rental licenses are ideal for them because they are short term and have an expiration date. Each season they have to present a budget, and at the end of that season they cannot have any “leftover” assets. For example, we have several users who shoot episodic shows. We do make more money selling perpetual licenses, and it is more economical for our users, but sometimes perpetual licenses don’t make sense for users’ workflows. I think our new activation does that, and our website now makes it all easier and more straightforward – plus it’s just cool! It accommodates for either user type. It was crucial for us to be able to adequately serve both small and large, as well as everyone in between. We have many different kinds of users - from one-person operations all the way up to post houses with 500+ employees.

There are multiple activation options with either the user’s email address and password or the license code, as well as manual options when the Internet is not available. The system will also automatically pull in the computer name that the license is activated on. For example, they can add nicknames to licenses based on the project, the person using it, availability, etc. With the activation system, users can organize their licenses like never before. We wanted to provide more flexibility all the way around. The number one idea for everything Imagine is flexibility. We had simply outgrown the old system, and it was becoming more of a headache for our customers and for us. The website and activation system are a complete overhaul. I wanted something that was like our software: easy to use, while giving you exactly what you need. This new website was my personal passion project. Our website was cutting edge when it was built – years ago - but we needed to change with the times or get left behind. We are also working on new tutorial videos that are more in-depth. We have a new website which makes using all the products together easier thanks to our new bundles. With all the new camera formats being released - sometimes it feels like daily - and 4K becoming more and more widely used, transcoding is becoming a crucial part of the workflow. Since then we have entered the transcoding world with PrimeTranscoder. myLTO is perfect for creating LTO tapes for deliverables or long-term storage. PreRoll Post is a full-blown archiving system complete with a searchable database, created from each LTO tape with easy retrieval capabilities.
PreRoll Post and myLTO are well suited for any workflow. In 2012, we dove head first into LTO archiving, developing one of the first applications to securely create LTFS archives. What about Imagine’s other product offerings? In fact, it was used by NFL Films during this year’s Super Bowl broadcast.
Now everyone uses it, from freelancers and one-person shops, all the way up to major studios and networks. We developed one app to rule them all, and it became the standard offloading app for the M&E industry. It was originally three separate offload apps designed to work with Sony, Red and Panasonic, but when ARRI came calling, we developed ShotPut Pro.
